The Deschutes County Rural Fire Protection District #2 contracts with the Bend Fire Department for fire protection.

The Bend Fire Department consists of 90 personnel, 57 paid and 33 volunteer, consisting of a fire chief, two deputy chiefs (one administrative chief, one operations chief), division chief, three battalion chiefs who work a 24-hour shift, fire marshal, two inspectors, two secretaries and 47 line personnel.

Each battalion consists of a battalion chief, 5 captains, 5 engineers, and 4 firefighter/medics, as signed in accordance with Bend Fire Department policy.

Each of the stations is manned by a company of three men. Every station has a pumper, brush/interface pumper, and ambulance. Water tenders are located at three of the four stations. All personnel respond from their assigned station based on calls for their specific response areas. We call this system "ambulance districting." Personnel are cross-trained for both fire and ambulance, and each responding crew has advanced life support trained paramedics staffing the ambulance.
