NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Tom Fay, Deschutes County Rural Fire Protection
District #2 (541) 318-0459 (BEND, OR)--The Deschutes County Rural Fire Protection District #2 (DCRFPD #2) and the City of Bend have reached a tentative agreement for the construction and remodel of the facilities used by the Bend Fire Department to provide emergency services to city and district residents. Under the preliminary agreement, the district will build three new stations and remodel two more using its capital reserve funds for part of the cost and financing the balance. The city of Bend has agreed to transfer to the district ownership of all of the stations as well as the land at four of the sites. The city would then lease the facilities, offsetting some of the cost of the debt service. Four of the stations will have space that will be leased back to the City of Bend to be used as police substations to service the urban area. A separate administration building for fire and police services would be constructed with city funds. The arrangement is the culmination of months of negotiation between the city and the district directed at strengthening the long term relationship between the two entities, and finding a method to improve fire service without additional burden on taxpayers. The plan was presented to the city council on May 6 and will be reviewed by the rural board at it’s regular meeting on May 12 at 6:30 P.M., at the main fire station, 5 N.W. Minnesota Ave. For more information contact DCRFPD #2 Administrative Manager, Tom Fay, at 318-0459 or Larry Langston, chief of Bend Fire Department at, 388-5533. |
