FireFree/Firewise Small Grant Application

Deschutes County Rural Fire Protection District #2 (DCRFPD #2) offers small grants for the purpose of helping homeowners who will use a small grant to encourage wildfire mitigation and reduce wildfire risk within the boundaries of their neighborhoods. These funds are administered by DCRFPD #2. The grant application period opens July 1st and all projects shall be completed with an invoice submitted to DCRFPD #2 no later than June 5th or the grant application approval will be considered to be expired. Examples of uses for grant funds include:

• Disposal fees
• Hauling fees and dumpsters
• Volunteer hours & expenses such as refreshments, transportation, and food
• Mailing or advertising expenses to “get the word out”
• Fuels Treatments
• Chipping

The Executive Director will consider each request, conduct a site visit, and make recommendations. Additional priority will be given to those projects that provide wildfire safety for the greatest number of people, such as Homeowner Associations or Firewise Sites. Grantees will need to leverage resources to match grant funds to be reimbursed for services. Upon approval of the Board of Directors, a check will be issued for the amount approved by the Executive Director once receipts have been submitted and verified. Payment of grant funds will be paid to one person, a business or an Association, not a group of separate individuals. It will be the group’s responsibility on how the funds are to be used but should be documented within the grant application. Grant amounts will vary depending on the number of homeowners in the grant with documentation of the type of mitigation to take place. Normally, grants are awarded for $2,000.00 or less depending the number of participants and wildfire risk severity.
